1 pkg. dry yeast
2 tablespoon sugar
1 teaspoon soda
1 ½ teaspoon salt
2 cup buttermilk
2 tablespoon very warm water
3 teaspoon baking powder
1 cup vegetable shortening
Dissolve yeast in warm water. Stir dry ingredients in a large bowl. Cut in
Shortening, add buttermilk, and yeast mixture. Stir until thoroughly moistened.
Turn dough out onto floured sheet and knead 1to 2 minutes. (No rinsing is
required). Roll ½ inch thick, cut out. Place on greased sheet pan, brush with butter
Bake at 400˚ for 12 to 15 minutes. Can keep dough in fridge for 1 week.
